We publish essays about how people stay together — and sometimes don't. We're looking for two kinds of writers: professionals who work with couples and families, and people writing honestly from their own relationships.

If you're a professional

Therapists, counsellors, relationship coaches, mediators and researchers. Readers come here in the middle of something hard, looking for exactly the kind of help you give.

What you get:

  • A byline with your credential, and your one line on every piece you write.
  • An author page listing your essays, with a link to your own website — and, once our directory opens, to your verified listing.
  • Your essay in our newsletter, with a note from you to readers if you'd like.

What we ask:

  • Write to help, not to sell. No booking links, offers or lists of services in the essay. Your author page carries your link.
  • Protect your clients. Never write about a client who could be recognised, even with details changed, without their written consent. Follow your regulator's rules on confidentiality and advertising.
  • Say what's evidence and what's opinion. Research explainers list their sources; opinion is welcome when it's labelled as yours.
  • Your own words. No AI-written prose — see how we work.

Rather check than write? Review a piece in your area and you're credited on it, with your credential and the date of your review.

If you're writing somewhere that rewards volume

If you write carefully and watch clickbait and AI-generated posts get the attention, you're who we're looking for. Here an editor reads everything, nothing is ranked by clicks, and every piece carries its writer's name and what their writing draws on. We publish new pieces, not reposts, so that each essay's first home is here.

If you're writing from experience

Personal essays about breakups, the fight you keep having, repair, dating, family. Change the names and identifying details of the people in your story, and write to understand, not to settle a score.

How it works

  1. Email a pitch to hello@coffeepal.com: a few lines on the idea, why you're the one to write it, and your credential if you have one.
  2. If it's a fit, we invite you to write in our editor.
  3. An editor reads every draft, suggests changes, and publishes when it's ready.
  4. Later, you can ask us to update or correct your essay.

We don't pay for essays at the moment, and we'll always say so before you start writing.
